The Church at Whistling Pines is governed by a team of Elders. Our Church government is Elder driven, outside counsel protected, and membership strengthened. The Elders set the vision and mission for the church and provide oversight and guidance to ministry leaders. Ministry leaders are empowered to run their ministries under the guidance of the overall vision.
The elders act as a body. The elders in this body are equal in function, but differ in the expression of their gifts and in the time they may give to watching over and feeding the flock. The functioning eldership in team ministry is an extension of a functioning priesthood of believers (members). The Lead Pastor/ lead elder leads the Board of Elders in overseeing the day-to-day ministry of the church.
Along with our three pastors, we have the following elders, who work with us to help guide the vision of the church:
Paul is one of the elders of Whistling Pines (and in fact is the eldest elder J). He does not have a formal office or position, but due to his “gifting” as contextual and historical is, by default, a leavening agent in deliberations, providing input from just over 40 years of walking with the Lord.
His Clifton StrengthsFinder strengths include:
Context Input Intellection Empathy Responsibility
Paul has been married to Dianne for 46 years. They have two kids, Jan Allison (35) and Kelly (34) and three grandchildren, Colby (11), Morgan (9) and Kendal (9). He is deeply content in the context of Whistling Pines, is a voracious reader, an adjunct professor at LSCC and is committed to the spiritual well-being and nurture of his family.
You can connect with him on Twitter at, https://twitter.com/EightyDeuceAbn or Face Book (Paul Guthrie).

Brenda is one of our elders, responsible for the Women’s Ministry and Benevolence Team, here at The Church at Whistling Pines. Brenda also leads the Response and Prayer Ministry for the Church. Her passion is to minister to hurting people, see them restored, and reaching their full potential in the Lord. She enjoys teaching a weekly Women’s Bible Study, in a local apartment complex.
Her Clifton StrengthsFinder signature themes are:
Communication Harmony Consistency Adaptability Developer
Brenda has been married to Robert Williams for 30 + years. Together they have served in leadership of various churches for most of those years. When she is not busy with ministry activities, she loves to read and be involved with the social media. She is a doting grandmother who tries to spend quality time with her two beautiful daughters and four wonderful grandchildren.
