Week 2- Jesus as Priest
As our High Priest, Christ Jesus has opened for us the way of access to God so that we continually draw near into God’s very presence without fear but with confidence and in full assurance of faith. We no longer need a special temple or tent, we no longer need a special man (high priest) to stand between us and God. Because of what Christ did we can “come boldly before the throne of grace”!  In this message we will look at the role of the High Priest in the Old Testament and specifically the garments they wore and see the beautiful picture of why Jesus is referred to as our High Priest.

    Week 1- Jesus as Prophet
Jesus was not merely a messenger of revelation from God (like all the other prophets), but was himself the source of revelation from God. Rather than saying as the Old Testament prophets did, “Thus says the Lord,” Jesus could begin divinely authoritative teaching with the amazing statement, “But I say unto you”. Jesus is the Logos (word, discourse or reason) of God!

Week 18- The Full Message of the Gospel- Part 2 (Acts 5:33-42)
The "good news" can only continue to be just that when we understand why it is good news and that it is a present tense reality for those who do not know Him AND for those who do. When the Sanhedrin wanted to put to death the apostles, a Pharisee named Gamaliel spoke up and prevented it. He reasoned with them that if it was of human origin then it would fail. If it is from God, you aren’t able to stop it and find yourself fighting against God Himself. When we look for things to save us or to worship that are “of human origin” we have ceased to be transformed by the Gospel.

Week 17- The Full Message of the Gospel- Part 1 (Acts 5:17-32)
On the heels of people pouring into the streets to be healed miraculously, the Apostles were arrested. During the night an angel of the Lord busted them out of prison, and told them to go to the temple courts and “tell the people the full message of this new life”. This is a directive to every disciple since then. What is the “full message”? Is there danger in only telling part of it? Do we still need the gospel preached to us as believers? We will look at what is the Gospel Message, summed up in three parts.

Week 16- Let us Rest (Acts 5:12-16)
One of the ten commandments is to honor the Sabbath Day and keep it holy.  In the modern church that commandment is rarely spoken about and it seems we have lost or chosen to forget the true meaning of that day.  So many Christians treat Sunday as an 'optional...what do I want to do today...day'  They treat Sunday as if it were 'THEIR day...not GODS day'.  As with our tithe where God only asks for 10% of what we earn to come back to Him, God is asking us to just set aside one day to dwell with Him, focus on Him, and with the family of God.  As believers we need to rethink our view of the sanctity of Sunday and make a decision to rededicate that day back to God versus considering it a 'snow day' where we focus on us and what we do what we want to do.

Week 14- Is God Angry? (Acts 5:1-11)
The story of Ananias and Sapphira makes us very uncomfortable with today's popular "feel good" theology.   God's character has not changed from the Old Testament to the New.  He is an awsome God who demands holiness, righteousness, discipline, and obedience to His commands.  While He is gracious, kind, and loving, He is also a Holy consuming fire.  His mercy is longsuffering, however He will bring discipline to his children who walk in open disobedience. This message talks about finding a balanced and accurate view of God's character as Father.

Week 13- Spirituality Weds Practicality (Acts 4:32–5:11)
The New Testament church is called to give our best; to God, His church, and to others. The book of Acts gives great exposure to the unity and generosity of the early church when it came to money and possessions. The story of Ananias and Sapphira also give a wake-up call of how serious God is when we lie to the Holy Spirit. We will examine the New Testament model for giving.

Week 12- Testify of God’s Power (Acts 4:23-31)
After being miraculously freed from jail, John and Peter were reunited with the brethren where they celebrated the providence of God.  When they did this an amazing thing happened...the Holy Spirit showed up!  Testimonies of the works of God in our lives seem to be a way to usher in the presence of God into a group of people.  Also in this message we celebrate God’s providence by giving testimonies of his great providence and praise; worshipping the God who watches over and provides for His people.

Week 11- Hanging with Jesus (Acts 4:5-22)
After healing the crippled beggar, Peter and John are brought before the Sanhedrin. They were asked, “By what power or what name did you do this?” It says Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, explained it was by Jesus’ authority. When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized they were just ordinary, unschooled men, they realized they “had been with Jesus”. With the healed man standing next to them as evidence, there was nothing they could say. Love and trust that dispel fear comes from spending time with Jesus. Are people noticing the same about us? Are we walking in His authority and character by spending time with him?

Week 10- Resurrection Existence (Acts 4:1-4)
One of the principal messages the early church proclaimed was resurrection. There is the promise of eternal life after our physical death for all of those who put their trust in Jesus. Resurrection, however, is not just concerning the future. We can experience resurrection from the death in us and around us now! “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20)

Week 9- Traded For Jesus (Acts 3:13-26)
"You disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you."  These powerful words spoken by Peter to the crowd that had gathered after he healed the crippled man speak volumes to us today.  In our lives we have strongholds that we have called out to instead of Jesus Christ.  We chose them over Jesus by the simple fact we place them before our Savior.  In this message we will be challenged to look deep inside and find out what 'murderer' we have chosen over Jesus Christ.

Week 8- What I Have, I Give to You (Acts 3:1-12)
Peter and John, going to a prayer meeting, encounter a crippled man in the midst of their regularly scheduled events of the day. They are suddenly presented with an opportunity to glorify God and radically transform not only the crippled man’s life, but also the life of the community. They ministered to him out of what they had (the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit). His Spirit was manifested and the man was healed on the spot. The ministry gift of healing is a powerful demonstration of the presence of God, not of our own power or godliness. Jesus promised that healing would take place through our hands as we touch the sick, this was among the “signs that will accompany those who believe” (Mark 16:15-18).

Week 7- The Life of the Church (Acts 2:42-47)
Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need.

Week 6- True Repentance (Acts 2:22-41)
The second half of Peter's sermon on the day of Pentecost is one that stands as a model for all those who preach the gospel of salvation through Jesus Christ.  Peter talks about what it means to be saved and repentance is pivotal in this process.  In this message Pastor Scott focuses on what true repentance is and how repentance plays a continual role in the life of the believer even after their initial repentance and acceptance of Jesus' sacrifice.

Week 5- The Baptism of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:1-21)
Jesus’ promise of the outpouring of His Holy Spirit upon all flesh comes to fruition! The Day of Pentecost was a monumental day for the life and effectiveness of His church. He already established we should be “sent ones,” with that He equips and empowers us for the work. The baptism of the Holy Spirit gives us power to be His witnesses. We aren't satisfied with being sprinkled with water when baptized; we believe we must be submerged. Why be satisfied with only a "sprinkling" of the Holy Spirit?

Week 4- The Apostolic Ministry (Acts 1:15-26)
Matthias is chosen from the group of disciples to take Judas’ place among the apostolic leaders. A replacement was sought to fulfill prophecy as well as a void. We will look at what an apostle is and how they function. Not everyone is an apostle, but everyone can be apostolic. The Holy Spirit is an apostolic Spirit and the Church therefore needs to be an apostolic Church if it is to fulfill its mission.

Week 3- Constantly in Prayer (Acts 1:12-15)
The book of Acts documents the power of the Holy Spirit demonstrated in and through the lives of His sent ones. One exceptional stimulant for this powerful release and effective spreading of the Christian faith was that of prayer. Prayer is mentioned as a hallmark 31 times and appears in 20 of Acts’ chapters. Around 120 assemble in the upper room before the day of Pentecost and it says, “They all joined together constantly in prayer…” We will look at the role of prayer in making decisions, seeking His will, and for receiving more of His presence.

Week 2- Foundations for the Believer (Acts 1:1-11)
Most every church going Christian knows what the great commission is. At the end of the book of Matthew we read the simple and concise commission Jesus gave to His disciples and in turn all of us as part of the Church. In these first eleven verses in the book of Acts we a wonderful lesson in what exactly that means through a beautiful metaphor. Luke describes the scene of the disciples staring upwards at where they had just seen Jesus go and then being corrected by the two angels to focus rather upon what Jesus has told them to do....the great commission.
In the Church today many are 'treading water' or simply keeping the status quo while waiting for Christ's return. Yet maybe the very reason He has not returned is because we have not been fulfilling this great commission in the way that Jesus intended for us to be fulfilling it....going into the world walking in the power of the Holy Spirit and all that means and proclaiming that today is a day of salvation for all!

Verses 22-34 of John chapter 3 gives us incredible insight into a man, John the Baptizer, greatly gifted and called, who must come face to face with a decision. That decision is “what is my role?” Through beautiful imagery of a wedding we see God’s purpose for his children through Christ Jesus. The Bride belongs to the Bridegroom. John chooses to be the shoshabin; the friend who attends the Bridegroom. The friend waits and listens for Him, full of joy when he hears His voice. We will look at the task of the shoshabin and as greatly gifted and called members of the Bride we too are face to face with a decision. What is my role?

    Slide02

How many of us desire to prophesy? If we do not have this desire, we are being disobedient to Scripture and are not being effective in edifying His body! We will look at what prophecy is; distinguish between the manifestation gift, the motivational gift, and the office gift of Prophet. We will also cover frequently asked questions regarding the prophetic. God wants us to "speak forth" His divine will and purposes of God in people's lives so that they will worship God and exclaim "God is really among you!" (1 Corinthians 14; Numbers 11:24-29)

Repairing Your Altar (1 Kings 18:16-40)
    Series: Misc
Elijah was commissioned by the Lord to relate a word from the Lord during the showdown with the prophets of Baal on Mt. Carmel. With the people of Israel assembled he said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.” The people said nothing. Elijah sets up the ultimate test to see which “god” answers with fire. The altar for Baal was ready for the sacrifice; ready to go! The altar for the Lord was dilapidated and in ruins. Before the Lord could answer with fire, the altar had to be repaired. What about our altar; the way, the time, and the places we worship God with our life and our service? Is it in disrepair? We need to fix our altar before God will answer with fire!
